After you order, we email you to agree on a pickup time window that suits both you and the courier, and the courier comes at the time agreed with you. They collect the tapes from you in person, or from your front door or porch if you leave them out. On the day of pickup we remind you by email, and the courier personally texts you at the phone number in your order before heading out; for an in-person handoff, the courier also texts you 5–10 minutes before arriving. Returns work the same way: we agree on a time by email, remind you on the day, and the courier texts you before heading out and, for an in-person handoff, 5–10 minutes before arriving. The courier hands the tapes to you or leaves them at your door; if you agreed to meet in person but no one is home, the courier leaves the tapes at your door and records when and how the package was left. The courier only collects and returns tapes and can’t answer questions about digitization or your order; send those to support@savevhs.com.
No, pack them any way you like. If you leave the tapes at your door or on the porch for pickup, put them in a waterproof package or bag and mark it “SaveVHS”.
You are, until the courier collects them, and again once the courier has returned them. When the courier leaves a package at your door, they record when and how it was left. If packages aren’t safe left unattended where you live, please meet the courier in person.
Email support@savevhs.com or call +1 (503) 919-7714 at least 2 hours before the agreed time and we’ll set a new one, or leave the tapes out for pickup instead. If no one meets the courier and no tapes are left out for pickup, and you didn’t let us know at least 2 hours before the agreed time, your order is cancelled and refunded minus a $10 fee for the courier’s wasted trip. If we can’t reach you to arrange a pickup, we’ll remind you a couple of times; if your tapes haven’t been picked up 30 days after you placed the order and you haven’t responded, we may cancel the order and refund it in full.
If the courier can’t pick up your tapes because of us, we’ll let you know on the day of pickup and then agree on a new day and time with you by email.
We don’t run a walk-in counter: the workshop is a working space, not a retail location. Pickup is the only in-person handoff option. It’s free with every order, so there’s no reason to avoid it.
Standard Basic capture is 2 to 5 business days after pickup. For Portland customers without shipping days, the total elapsed time is usually under a week for small orders.
Edges of the metro. Email us your address and we’ll let you know. Inside the Portland metro area pickup and drop-off are always free. Outside it, orders go by mail: you ship the tapes to us yourself, and we mail them back after the work, with return shipping shown at checkout.
